The Boys First Camping Trip

We got back from camping at about midnight last night. We had a good time with Russell and Tracie, their kids and Tracies family. We stayed at the Aspen Campground which is between Woodland and Hanna. I really liked it. Russ and Tracie didn't make it the first night (Friday) because their Expedition broke down going up Parleys Canyon, then when they went home to get their truck instead, its CV joint broke and a tire fell off as they were backing out of their driveway. They finally made it up Saturday after getting the Expedition fixed. It rained Friday night, but luckily the rainflap on our tent worked and it stayed dry inside. We had the boys sleeping wrapped in blankets in between our sleeping bags, but Dan woke up in the middle of the night crying because he was cold and climbed inside Gary's bag with him. Jackson slept like a log both nights we were up there. I was afraid he would get cold, but he seemed to be just fine. He slept with a hat on and two or three blankets. Saturday was my birthday. We took a drive up the canyon, and let Dan play in the river. Jordan, Tommy, & Tom went fishing in the early morning. We walked up and watched them for a while. Tracie's nephew Logan caught a good sized trout - he's only 5. For dinner we cooked chicken fajitas and a black forest cake in the dutch oven. It was yummy. That night we played games around the fires. The one I liked the best was having everyone name a celebrity whose started with each letter of the alphabet. For example, the first round was celebrities that started with an A (first or last name), then the second round was B. If you couldn't think of one you were out. It was fun. That night in the tent Dan slept in Gary's bag, though he kept inching out - he didn't like being inside the bag. We bundled Jack up again and put in next to my head so Dan wouldn't roll on him. Sunday Russ cooked us a nice breakfast and the guys went fishing again. Gary and the boys and I took another drive. The kids played in the river while I took a nap with Jack. Later we all went downriver to play some more. It rained that evening, right when the sun was going down so it made it seem a lot colder than it had been the last two nights. We had another dutch oven supper - beef stew this time. It was yummy too! Jack was really fussy and wouldn't stop crying. I thought he had a temperature and we could tell he didn't feel good. I didn't want him to sleep in the cold again. So we packed up and headed home about 10 pm.
It was a good experience, camping with the boys for the first time. Dan didn't get his naps like he usually does, and his freedom was restricted a lot, so he was fussy a lot of the time. But all said, I think we'll do it again soon.

That campground looks like a beautiful area! We should definately try to go on a family camping trip there.
