Shelly and I decided to start making our own baby food. I know, a little late in the game (Jack is 7 months old & Tyler is nine months) but at least we are trying! We did our first batch tonight and I am amazed at how easy it was and how much we got! I will definitely continue the practice in the future. It is way less expensive than store-bought food (and it tastes better too!) The frozen food should store up to three months (not that it will last that long!) Good thing we bought a freezer.
We made squash, sweet potatoes, peaches, mixed veggies and carrots. We gave Jack some of the squash (an acorn & butternut mix) and he liked it. Tomorrow I'm going to try some green veggies - beans, zuchinni, peas, & broccoli. Oh, corn too!
Tonight I baked two acorn & two butternut squashes and from that we got 2 ice cube trays full, a medium-sezed tupperware full and 5 plastic baby food containers full. We got about the same amount from two sweet potatoes. Shelly cooked a bag of frozen mixed veggies and got about a half a medium-sized tupperware full. I pureed a jar of home-canned peaches and got a ice cube tray full. I also cooked about two cups of carrots and got an ice cube tray full and two plastic baby food containers. Not bad for a couple of hours work! Plus - I got to visit with Shelly and see my nephew!
