A visit with Granny & Opa

We returned last night from a weekend trip to St. George to visit Gary's parents. They are in permanent residence at their winter home there for a year or so. We had a fairly uneventful trip down, though it was somewhat windy & there was a small dust storm around Kanosh. It only slowed us down for a minute & then cleared. All the the wildfires this past summer have really changed the landscape along the I-15 corridor. There are acres of burned-out trees & barren land. It was kind of eerie to drive through.
When we arrived the boys were very excited to see their Granny & Opa and they were glad to see all of us too. We enjoyed the evening spent talking & the boys (especially Jackson) had to explore every nook & cranny of Granny & Opa's house. The boys were exhausted by bedtime & had no trouble falling asleep. We spent Saturday trimming bushes, going out to dinner & generally relaxing. We had planned on taking the boys to the pool, but it was closed to kiddos 5 and under. Dan loved going on walks with Opa & Papa. They saw a bunny & a snake on these walks. In the afternoon we took the boys for a drive & took some pictures of them against the beautiful red rock near Granny & Opa's house.
Sunday we attended Sacrament meeting with Granny & Opa then headed back to their house for lunch & a nap (for Gary & Jack) before we headed North. The ride home was peppered with the requisite potty stops for Dan, a tire patch for the van & a detour around a bigger dust storm in Kanosh. We are glad to be home in our own beds & glad to have taken the time to go and visit with Granny & Opa. We miss not seeing them two or three times a week like we did when they lived in Salt Lake. We will get to see them again at conference time.
