Child-Proof Locks

They aren't just for cupboards any more. Last week I had sat down to feed Evan when I realized I couldn't hear the boys playing. I set Evan down and went looking for the boys. I found the back door open, but no boys in the back yard. I went and checked the gate - closed, so I went back inside to look. No boys inside, so I opened the front door to see if they had gotten out. Just as I opened it Gary came home & I told him I couldn't find the boys. Just then we hear our kitty-corner neighbor talking and the boys are down in the cul-de-sac. Good thing she was out there! We ran to get the boys, gave them a scolding & took them home. Near as I can figure, Max opened the back door from the outside and let the boys out into the yard. They opened the latch on the back gate (and closed it after themselves mind you) and, as Daniel tells it, Jack ran off & he was bringing him back. Very scary! So since that day I have been wondering what we could do to make the gate more secure. It dawned on me yesterday - a child-proof cupboard latch. Luckily I had an extra one in the cupboard. I put one on each of our back gates and so far, so good. No escapees.
Now that our back yard is a little more secure I went and picked up the boy's sandbox from the old house yesterday. The boys can't seem to keep the sand in the box, but at least they have something besides balls to play with outside. We should be getting our swing set out here on Thursday. I even picked up a baby swing to add to the set at a yard sale for $5. Gary picked up our garden boxes on his way home from work tonight, so now we need to get planting. Yay! Can't wait!
It always surprises me what finds it's way into Jack's diaper. I mean really, how does sand get into his diaper through his pants and a onesie? He must have had half a cup in there when I changed him at nap time! We are hoping that the box of diapers I bought him today is his last. That's right - we're going to start potty training Jack. Daniel still isn't 100%, but maybe we can have a little friendly competition to encourage going on the potty. Here's hoping.
Evan survived his first week sleeping nights in the boys room. He did really well. Daniel has started getting up when Evan wakes to eat, but that is okay. He usually is content to watch cartoons (PBS!) and eat his banana until I finish with Evan. Jackson has been sleeping in later than Daniel (knock on wood). Getting the boys to take naps has become increasingly challenging. Usually if I want them to go to sleep I have to crawl in bed with Jack & lie there for 10-15 minutes until he is out. Not so bad you would think, except it makes me tired & I have things I want to get done during nap time! Luckily Evan is a good sleeper and can usually sleep through his brother's noise.
I finished two sewing projects today. The first was a puppy sleeper and hat outfit for a customer. It turned out cute. You can see it on the sewing blog. The second was a reusable shopping bag. I really like how it turned out. I even put a plastic pocket on the front for a photo. It wasn't too hard. I think I will sew some more up for the Etsy shop.
