We're home! Evan did really well with his surgery and is sleeping off the anesthesia. He will most likely sleep for most of today. Dr. Schmelzer said to keep his hands wrapped for a few weeks so he doesn't chew on his incisions. So, I haven't seen his "new" hands yet. We will go back for a follow up visit in three weeks. At that appointment Dr. Schmelzer will also evaluate him for a helmet. He said that he won't put a helmet on him until he is 6 months old and is rolling. He rolled over twice last night (with a little help, but not much), so I am going to keep working with him. I don't want his helmet to be delayed because he isn't mobile enough.
They gave him an injection of Botox in his neck to help with his Torticollis during surgery too. Dr. Schmelzer said that it will paralyze the muscle in his neck that is too short so we can stretch it and lengthen it easier. The effects of that should last 3 months.
It was a long day, getting up at 1:30 to nurse him (he normally sleeps through the night), then 4:30 to feed him juice before he couldn't have anything else. We left the house at 5:15-ish, dropped off the boys at my parents at 5:30, were at the hospital by 6 and his surgery was at 7:30 am. We got home around 12:30 this afternoon. It wasn't too stressful - I kept myself busy with a sewing job while waiting. Glad it's over though! Thanks to everyone for their prayers.
Here are some photos for you all.
