Sledding Adventure

Yesterday our Elders Quorum had a sledding activity planned. I wasn't too sure about going. It has been so cold and the activity was planned for 8:00 am! Who’s idea was that? So I determined that I would just take Daniel and leave the other two boys home with Mama. I figured that it would be early enough that I could just sneak in to the boy’s room and quietly pull Daniel out, leaving Jackson asleep. Well, that didn’t work. Jackson woke up. I tried to get him to go back to sleep, but without luck. I got Daniel ready and fed him a quick breakfast. I noticed Jackson lying in the hallway. I kept trying to keep Daniel quiet so Jack wouldn’t think he was missing out on something, but it’s hopeless trying to keep Daniel quiet when he gets excited. So when we were ready I made one more attempt at getting Jackson to go back to bed. He was so sad! He had big tears on his cheeks. I told him that I would take him sledding another time. He said, “No.” I told him it was too cold for him. He said, “No.” Finally I asked if he wanted to go sledding. Of course he said, “Yes!” I don’t even know if he knew what I was talking about, but he did not want to be left out. So I got him dressed and away we went. Only one other family came to the activity. Our Elder’s Quorum President said we should just cancel as the snow was too old and crusty. But, I said that I had to take my boys and at least try a few runs. The other family seemed to be in the same boat. So we took our kids and went to the golf course that had been selected. We had a great time. I sat in the back of my old childhood sled and piled Dan and Jack in my lap and we made 5 or 6 runs down the hill. We all loved it. I kept thinking of how funny and tender it was that Jack wanted to go so bad. He just knew something was up and he wanted in. He’s such a sweet boy despite his boundless spunk. I think it is a great sign of many adventures to come with him. He loves to work with me in the garden or the garage. Words just can’t adequately express the blessing of being a Father.
