Johnson Family Camping Trip 2009 (Picture Overload!)

This past weekend we headed out for our annual Johnson Family Camping Trip with my family. Gary, the boys and I left Thursday afternoon. We have always camped at the Aspen campground in the Ashley National Forest. The campground is along the North Fork of the Duchesne river and it is beautiful. It was especially so this year. There was an abundance of wildflowers thanks to our very wet June. We also saw a deer in camp a couple of times, and a snake or two.The first thing the boys wanted to do after we got there was to go fishing. We took them over to the river after we set up our tent and let them fish. They loved every second of it.Evan had to play in the water too!
That night we had a traditional camp fire dinner of hot dogs and tin foil potatoes with shmookies for dessert. I also tried to pop some popcorn over the fire, but that didn't work too well. The boys were so excited to sleep in the tent. Daniel kept telling up every ten minutes that he thought it was time to get jammies on and go to bed - starting just after we came back from fishing. My parents arrived on Friday, as did Shelly and Jeff. Luckily Gary went up on the road to try and get cell phone reception because it was getting late and we hadn't seen them. As he was up there, they all drove by (lost.) Shelly and Jeff had made it almost all the way to Duchesne - only about 20 miles away! LOL But they found us and we had a good dinner of Navajo Tacos. After dinner we did some more fishing and they boys fell right to sleep when it came time for bed. Both boys did really well at staying in their sleeping bags at night. Dan wet his bed once, as did Jack, and Jack scooted out of his bag on our last night there, but over all they were great sleepers. We had occasional outbursts in their sleep, but we managed to get enough. That white speck is Gary fishing on a rock.
Saturday Susan and Greg arrived. We did more fishing, and had a water fight in the river. Gary and I got into a good fight and I totally biffed it in the river while running away from him. I completely soaked myself, which I hadn't intended to do. Good thing I brought extra clothes to change in to. It was a blast though, and could you ask for a prettier setting?Notice how I am dripping wet?!

Sunday we all packed up and headed home. The boys insisted on fishing one more time, so we obliged them. They also took the time to engage in their favorite camping activity - throwing rocks in the river. Even Papa and Evan joined in. They started stockpiling rocks in their room weeks ago to throw in the river. They take it very seriously.Dan helping to babysit Trisha.

For all the fishing the family did, Gary caught one, and one got away, I did the same. My Dad caught two, Shelly caught one and let it go (it was too small) and I think she had one get away too. I think Mom had one or two get away too. We had our fish the night we came home and it was pretty good. I'm still not a big fish fan, but Gary and the boys gobbled it up.
It was a great trip. We need to go camping more. I can't wait for Bear Lake in August.
