This is the Place

This past Friday my Dad and I took the boys up to This is the Place Heritage Park for their free Family Day. They had a lot of fun. The Days of '47 Rodeo Committee sponsored all sorts of activities for the kids. They had free crafts, pony rides, train rides, popsicles, and entertainment. Dan and Jack each made it home with a horse they made, a wooden vehicle they painted, a little pot of fake flowers and a wagon craft to do later. We arrived just after the park opened so we didn't have to wait very long for anything. Our longest wait was for the pony ride and that was only 10-15 minutes. The boys loved looking in all of the buildings. We bought them popcorn at the General Store and they thought that was quite a treat. It was a fun day to spend with Grandpa.Wednesday the boys were invited to Noah's birthday party. It was a water party and Dan and Jack had lots of fun playing in the kiddie pool and with the squirt guns. Evan wouldn't leave my side. He has never been swimming, so he was afraid of all of the water. He would cry when he got squirted with a squirt gun. Poor kid. I think he was also a little overwhelmed by all of the strangers. He is our shy one, and very attached to Mama at the moment.I took Evan in for his 18 month check-up on Thursday. He weighs 23 pounds. Jack right now, for comparison, weighs 28. Evan is fast catching him! Evan is in the 87th percentile for weight and 15th for height. He is growing about the same as Daniel did. Long and skinny.
Funny story for you. The other night Gary was flooding a patch of the lawn to pull weeds. Evan and I were sitting on the curb next to him, talking. I noticed that there were a couple of earwigs escaping the water below us, so i flicked them off so they wouldn't get to Evan. Then I decided to pick him up and move him and lo and behold - his pants were full of the little critters! Good thing I moved him when I did. I stripped his shorts and shook them out. I'm glad he didn't get pinched. He does have a big dark reddish spot on his ankle though, maybe he did get pinched. Gary thinks its a spider bite though. I am watching it carefully.
