A New Bed

Yesterday, Gary's Dad and I went and picked up a new bed for Dan - a toddler bed so Jack can have the crib. We got it used for $60 - including the mattress. And it is a solid wood bed, so I'm pleased with the deal. Plus it's a nice looking bed. Dan was excited about it yesterday. Once I got it put together right (it took three tries) he was climbing in and laying on it, looking like he wanted to go to sleep. Actually having him sleep in it was another matter. When I put him to bed last night, he went right to sleep and I thought "Great!" Then, half an hour later or so, he woke up crying. I went in and comforted him and he went to sleep again, only to wake up half an hour later crying again. I went in and comforted him again, then the next time I just let him cry it out. He was still in the bed this morning, which means he didn't fall out, so that's good. Hopefully he'll get used to the new bed quickly so I can start putting jack to sleep in the room with him. Today I put him down for a nap and was working on the computer. He was quite for a little while, then I heard "play" noises. I figured he needed the quiet time, so I didn't go in. He played for the rest of his naptime and when I did go in to get him there were books everywhere and he'd taken all of his cars out. He did try to get me to come "rescue" him earlier by banging on his door, but I held out, hoping he would go back to sleep. No luck. Tonight when we got home, he was so tired I had to carry him in from the car and he slept on the couch until I could get his diaper changed and him into his pajamas. I don't think he was even half awake for that. We skipped the nightly milk, and he was asleep before I laid him in bed. Later, I went in to check on him and his leg was dangling off the bed. The next time I went in to check, he wasn't in the bed at all - he was lying next to it, half under the crib. It was so cute & funny I had to take a photo, so here you go. The poor guy was still so tired he didn't even wake up when I put him back in bed. Now there's a heavy sleeper for you. I wonder if he even woke up when he rolled out...
