Boys First Fishing Trip

We spent the past weekend camping along the North Fork of the Duchesne River, in the Ashley National Forest. It was a great weekend. Friday we set up camp & I did a little fishing and caught 4! Two were tiny & I set them free, but the other two we kept (Gary cleaned them) and had them for supper Saturday night. It has been a good 10 years, or more, since I have been fishing & I was quite pleased with the outcome. My parents joined us in the early evening for a dinner of hot dogs & shmookies. Friday was also our sixth anniversary. What better way to spend it than camping with the boys!
Saturday Susan, Shelly, Jeff & Tyler joined us & Grandma & Grandpa set out for home. We let the boys play in the river, which Daniel thoroughly enjoyed, despite the (very) cold water. He had his own little fishing pole (no hook) that he loved "fishing" with. The only way I could drag him away from the water was to promise him we would finger paint back at camp. We did finger paint, which all three boys enjoyed. Gary & I fished some more with my dad & Gary caught one more keeper. We had yummy dinner of dutch oven chicken & fire-cooked trout that night. That night we were disturbed by some drunken fools driving around the camp ground in a loud diesel truck (apparently stealing peoples coolers). Luckily, we store our food in our vehicles, to keep it away from animals, so our food was safe.
Sunday we had a little devotional, took a walk, did a little fishing & generally enjoyed the day. It being Daniel's third birthday we celebrated by making a peach cobbler to go along with dinner. Susan left to start on reading Harry Potter, & the Krammers and we played Phase 10 after the kiddos went to bed.
We all left for home on Monday, but not until after being pleasantly surprised by an impromptu parade past our campsite - complete with candy for the boys. Dan & Jack though that was great. Jack was all for joining the parade.
Jack and Tyler were great playmates & really took to each other. They were partners in crime trying to escape to the road & digging in the dirt. They each had a new (thick) layer of dirt at the end of each day. Over all, the boys slept well, we enjoyed ourselves & it was a great reprieve from the long hot valley summer days.

Daniel has a new way of expressing his feelings. He says "I love it," or "I love ..." He is very enthusiastic about loving things. It is fun to see.
