Four Month Check-up

I took Evan in for his 4 month check this morning. Poor little guy, it wasn't much fun for him. First off, he has a double ear infection that I was unaware of. Then the doctor gave him a good checking over, which included Mama cleaning out the little hole in his ear to show Dr. Allred (he doesn't like that), and Dr. Allred turning his head all around to check his neck, which he also doesn't like. Lastly, he got 3 shots and an oral vaccination. He was not happy by the time we were done. He weighed in at 14 pounds even, 26.5 inches long. He is in the bottom third for weight, but 97% for height. He grew three inches in the past two months! I guess he's going to be tall like Daniel. Dr. Allred said the hole in his ear (which looks like a ear piercing) is related to a child having a cleft lip. It's called an Auricular Fistula. During early development that hole just doesn't get closed. Sometimes they can lead all the way into their neck. For now we just have to keep it cleaned out as best we can and try to avoid an infection. When he is a year old we'll have an ENT take a look at it. Dr. Allred examined his head quite well and determined that he does have plagiocephaly and torticollis. He was going to give me a referral to the Neurosurgery office at PCMC to look into getting a helmet for him, but after speaking to another doctor, wants to try physical therapy first. So I have a referral to a PT clinic in Taylorsville. He also gave me a referral to the Plastic Surgery office at PCMC to get this hands looked at. He agreed with me that his right thumbs can't straighten because the skin in too short. So maybe it won't be considered elective surgery after all to have his extra thumbs removed. Wow. That's a lot of stuff! So we're home now and Evan has been sleeping since we left the doctor's office, minus a feeding. I'm off to get some more sewing done!

Sounds like you have a super busy schedule ahead. Let me know how I can help, I'm on the way to Primary's and could take your other boys if you need. Feel free to call any time. Believe me, I know what it's like trying to take 3 little ones to many doctors visits...

Oh, and I LOVE that mother's day picture of your boys-what cuties!

I can't imagine how stressful this will be for you.

I glad that you pursued it further with the doctor. Sounds like a long haul, but at least you are on top of it. Grandma
