I took Evan in to his first physical therapy visit this afternoon. His therapist (Holly) evaluated his neck muscles and his head. She measured his head and said he falls into the severe category for plagiocephaly. So he more than likely will need a helmet. If we do PT for a month first though, the insurance is more likely to pay for it. I think the PT is more for his torticollis anyway. Watching her evaluate Evan, I could really see how uneven the muscle tone in his neck actually is. He can turn his head 35 degrees to the left but only 5-10 degrees to the right. Holly gave me stretches to do with him at home and we'll go back and see her again next Friday. She also suggested we try to entice him to turn his head to the right by placing interesting object on that side. I would like to get a fish aquarium toy for his crib to entice him to turn his head to the right when he is in bed. I am also supposed to make sure he gets tummy time, to take the pressure off his flat spot. He's not going to like that!
