Running with...

Running with a sippy cup. Not warned against in school, as is running with scissors, but dangerous nonetheless. Case in point: Daniel last night. We were watching a little TV and he was in the dining room walking with his sippy cup clamped firmly in his teeth. (Notice I said walking - there is no evidence that he was running.) Gary and I hear a loud crash, then an even louder cry. We look over the back of the couch and Dan is on the floor crying. Now I have to point out that this isn't a rare occurance in our house. Daniel often wipes out on the hardwood floors. What made us jump off the couch was the blood that starting dripping from his mouth! We rushed him into the kitchen to get a wet paper towel and sopped up his mouth until the bleeding subsided. It was pretty scary for us, since we have never seen so much blood come out of him at once. As best we can figure out the cup cut his gums above his top teeth, causing the bleeding, and gave him a huge fat lip in the process. No two-year old is going to let you put an ice pack on their face, so I substituted a popsicle. Dan was pretty happy after that - sitting on the couch nursing his popsicle. Today the lip swelling has gone down some and the actual injury can be seen, if he'll let you look that is.
