We took the boys down to Temple Square for Family Home Evening last night. We took them to the visitors center & saw the Christus statue. Daniel is very good at recognizing depictions of Jesus. Even pictures of Jesus as a youth or ones we are sure he has never seen before, he knows. Such a smart kiddo. As we passed the Tabernacle on the way in I told Dan that is where I was baptized & all night he was telling everyone he saw that he wanted to be baptized. The sister missionaries were so impressed!
While in the visitors center we took them through the new exhibit on families. It was really well-geared towards younger kids. They had short (very short) video clips about families, each in a different room decorated to look like a room in a house. It culminated in a longer video about Jesus Christ & the purpose of families. The boys enjoyed it & the sister missionaries enjoyed them.
After the visitors center we took them around the grounds, stopping to see the acoustical demonstration in the Tabernacle & stopping to see the Assembly Hall. One of the highlights of the evening for the boys (especially Jack) was the fountain on the south-east end of the grounds. Jack loves water. Daniel kept asking to put his fingers in, but the water was too cold (so we told him), and the drop from ledge to water was a bit high for his three year old reach.
A funny side note: On the way to Temple square we were driving down West Temple & we passed the Toyota dealership. Dan commented about the trucks & we talked about it for a minute. Then he says "Toyota Trucks." How he knew they were Toyota trucks is a bit mysterious, but I wouldn't be surprised if he picked up the logo on a commercial somewhere & recognized it at the dealership. He is constantly amazing us with his observations.
Jackson is beginning to try and make sentences, and to learn his letters. I think he wants so badly to be able to do what Dan does. Dan know all of his letter, & so Jack tried to copy Dan's naming them. He loves the letter "C" & that is usually his answer to a letter inquiry. I think he knows "A" too though. Dan has a Word Whammer on our freezer that he plays with a lot & it helps him learn his letter sounds and how to spell 3-letter words. Jackson lines up next to him in front of the fridge & plays with the Fridge Farm while Dan plays with the Word Whammer. It is fun to see them play "together."
