It Begins...

We are beginning a construction project tomorrow. We are putting in a staircase, leading to our attic, in the dining/living room. Today we kicked things off by rearranging furniture to get it out of the way of demolition. We decided now was the best time to start for a few reasons. One, we have neighborhood cleanup coming on Monday & we can put all the demolition junk out on the pile & not have to worry about discarding of it later. Two, Gary was laid off on Tuesday & has time right now. Three, we want to get it done before the baby comes so we don't have construction dust swirling around the house with a new babe. It will be nice to have better attic access (not the small hole in our attic ceiling), and we will be able to do some painting & some minor repairs that need to be done in the main living space. I am excited to get the room painted, as I have wanted to do it for a long time. Hopefully the whole project won't take too long, it would be nice to have it done by the Holidays. The family Halloween party planned for next weekend will have to change locale though. Maybe Shelly's house?
Gary was laid off as part of a big downsizing move by Ivory. Half of his department was laid off. It is kind of a blessing in disguise for us. Even though we lose our insurance coverage, we would have had major issues with Ivory's insurance come January any way. They are switching to a Health Savings Plan with a $6K deductible effective January 1st. So we would have had to shell out the $6K right off the bat when the baby was born. We do have coverage until the end of the month & are working on getting new insurance.
Jackson is so cute when it comes to "munching." He will beg food off of almost any one & tonight was no exception. I caught some cute pictures of him eating ice cream with Papa.
