Memorial Day Weekend Activities

We have had an enjoyable holiday weekend. Gary had Friday off, which made it a 4-day weekend for him. I took Evan to his PT session & to get his right thumb x-rayed in the morning. He hated the x-ray and Mama forgot his binkie so he had no comfort during that of his PT. Bad Mama. I won't forget that again! We had Gary's parents over in the late afternoon for dinner and a visit on their way to Boise. Gary's nephew Spencer graduated on Saturday there & his parents went up for the ceremony. We are watching their dog Hermie while they are there. He is a good little doggie and our animals don't seem to mind him. We have to keep an eye on Jack though, he has taken to kicking and hitting the animals - an action we are desperately trying to quell.
Saturday morning Gary did some work at the old Stratford house. We met up at IFA to purchase some trees and let Dan & Jack see the baby chickens, ducks, turkeys and rabbits. We ended up buying four trees - a Gala apple tree, Bartlett Pear, Bing Cherry and a flowering plum. They are all happily planted in our front and back yards now. On our way home we stopped at NPS and I picked up a bunch of full-sun perennials for our front yard. We are planning on putting in two large flower beds (eventually). These flowers will help start the first. We are looking to put in some large landscaping rocks and some river rock borders for the beds. It will be a long process, but we do have a plan drawn out. We didn't get our bed started. We were going to do that today, but it rained. The flowers are sitting in our garage, hopefully to be put in early this week.
Sunday at church I was asked to say the closing Sacrament meeting prayer and teach the Relief Society lesson. I'm glad they're both over. We had our friends the Birds stop over in the evening for a visit. It was so nice to see them again and the boys enjoyed seeing their friends.
Monday we spent most of the day inside, due to the rain. We did go in to Salt Lake to discuss Gary's work at the Stratford house with my parents, then we had them out to our house for dinner. We were supposed to have broiled parmesan tilapia, but our oven got locked and the locking mechanism broke, so we couldn't get the oven open! We ended up grilling the fish instead. It was yummy, but didn't taste quite like it was supposed to. Still way good though. We did eventually get the oven open, in time to cook our brownies for dessert. I'm pretty sure the oven door lock is permanently out of commission.
