I took Evan in to Dr. Schmelzer for his surgery follow up and head evaluation. Dr. Schmelzer said his hands look good. He said that it is obvious that the Botox is working, because his head turns so much easier now. He also said that our insurance should have covered it and if they won't to call his office. I had gotten a letter from Select Med saying it wasn't covered, because it wasn't an approved treatment method for Evans condition, or something like that. I'm glad Dr. Schmelzer will fight for coverage though - that shot alone was over $500!
Dr. Schmelzer said that our insurance will also cover his helmet. He most definitely needs one. Dr. Schmelzer estimated his asymmetry at 2 cm. I have an appointment with the orthotics office on Tuesday afternoon to get Evan's head measured for the helmet. It will take a few visits and a couple of weeks to get his helmet. After he gets it we will go in after the first 6 weeks to see Dr. Schmelzer for an evaluation. If he hasn't shown major improvement, he will get to have a skull x-ray to make sure his sutures haven't closed too early. Dr. Schmelzer was pretty sure they hadn't, even though his soft spot was gone by the time he was 4 months old. Dr. Schmelzer said we should see major improvement after 6 weeks. He didn't say how long Evan will have to wear his helmet. I am guessing it will be at least 3 months. He is getting one of the clear acrylic helmets. According to the orthotics guy they work better and faster than the big, bulky, white ones. I am glad we are getting the process started.

I'm glad for you. Looks like things are coming along for that smiley boy.
Ada had botox injections in her leg a couple of times.
That stuff is exPENNNsive!
Now our kids can tell all their friends they've had Botox. LOL Works wonders though, doesn't it??
I am glad that Evan is getting all the help he needs. You both are wonderful parents.
Good to hear that the ball is rolling and everything will be covered and such! I don't think I will opt for botox when I get older.... $500 a shot, I can't afford that crap for wrinkly skin.... :o)
Brittany--I'm glad you found me...your boys are adorable! I bet they keep you extra busy! And little Macy, what a sweet kitty! My cat is not a fan of the baby at all! It's pretty funny! Hope all is well, maybe I will see you in August.
