Independence Day

Happy Fourth of July! We spent the Fourth at home. We had plans to go to the parade here in Magna, but about an hour before it started Jackson suddenly came down with a fever and was very tired. We figured it was best to keep him out of the heat, so we gave him a cool bath, some Tylenol, a popsicle and let him take a nap instead. He was pretty much out of it for the rest of the day. His fever kept going up and down, as the Tylenol wore off and we'd give him more, but the rest did him good. He is doing better today (the fever is gone) but he is still very weepy and clingy. Yesterday evening we had my parents, Gary's parents, Craig and Susan over for a little BBQ. It seems that we do the same thing every year - decide at the last minute to have a BBQ and invite people a few hours ahead of time. Next year we'll plan ahead and invite people beforehand. We had beef and chicken kabobs for dinner. They were yummy, but I think I won't use stew meat for the beef ones next time. It was a little tough. We did fireworks in our driveway after dinner. I bought a small package earlier in the week & we used half last night. We're saving the others for the 24th of July. Wouldn't you know that the first one I lit was the loud one? It scared Dan & Jack, who spent the rest of the time in people's laps. They did enjoy the fireworks after that initial loud fountain. Even Evan was fascinated with the sparkles. He didn't fuss at all the whole time we were lighting fireworks. We fed Evan his first rice cereal yesterday as well. We have given him little tastes of things in the past. Last week we went to the Utah Symphony concert at Taylorsville Days and gave him some snow cone. He was addicted! He would cry when he wasn't getting more. He did the same thing on my birthday when I gave him tastes of the ice cream cake. He loved the cereal. He still has a tongue thrust reflex, but he ate all I fixed for him and more (I had to make him another bowl.) I'm thinking I need to feed it to him closer to nap time. He took a good nap after the cereal, but woke up three of four times last night screaming. He usually sleeps through the night, so it is really unlike him. He doesn't have a fever, but I still wonder if he may be sick. He does have a bit of a stuffy nose. I'll have to get him some decongestant.
